Ben is also a Medically Certified massage therapist proficient in numerous modalities including but not limited to acupressure, trigger point release, TMJ relief and headache relief therapies.

Ben’s massage journey started in 2012 when he was playing semi-professional soccer and tore every ligament in his knees. Ben was told that he would not ever walk again.

Through three years of recovery and a total of 14 screws in between his knees, Ben is now completely mobile and living a healthy life. This wouldn’t have been possible without fantastic therapists ranging from physical therapists, chiropractors, doctors, and massage therapists. For about three years, Ben committed to daily physical rehab.

This recovery process gave Ben a passion and a new purpose in life. It propelled him to specialize in deep tissue massage with an emphasis on not only making people feel better but actively working to make sure that the physical issues get lasting relief. Ben uses a slow and methodical approach, addressing problem areas and shifting focus when needed to provide the best possible massage experience for clients.

Ben is an avid hiker and outdoor activist who finds joy in helping people and loves spending time with his beautiful wife Brianna, and their two young daughters Scarlett and Avalon.

Ben is a bit of a class junky as he loves to learn everything and anything that has to do with bodywork. He has taken a multitude of classes throughout his career as a License Massage Therapist and is our Directing Manager here at Gateway Cottage Wellness Center. He strives for excellence in his work and makes sure that each appointment is unique for the client’s needs. Ben likes to take pieces and parts from each class he takes to help create lasting release and relief for his clients.

Testimonials

Therapeutic or Swedish Massage

  • Research and clinical studies prove that massage therapy’s advantages include much more than just relaxation. The medicinal benefits of therapeutic massage can have a positive, lasting impact on your overall health and lifestyle. It can rid your body of everyday stresses, reduce muscle pain and tension, help alleviate the discomfort of certain ailments, and help restore balance to your body and mind.

Therapeutic Massage uses varying degrees of pressure to release chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscles, tendons, and fascia.

Swedish Massage uses light strokes to calm the nervous system, reducing anxiety and tension in the body. Deep Tissue or Swedish Massages can be done as an individual session or combined in one session if needed or requested.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

  • Lymphatic Drainage Massage involves light and rhythmic techniques for a gentle massage that increases the movement of lymphatic fluid and increases the relaxation response. The result can be decreased pain, edema, stress, and improved sleep quality. This massage can be effective post-surgery or trauma such as inflammation, sprains, or whiplash, and is seen increasingly in the oncology setting.

Trigger Point Massage

  • Trigger Point Massage focuses on releasing trigger points, which are small, tight knots that develop in muscles that may even cause pain in other areas of the body (an effect known as “referral pain”). Trigger point massage incorporates other therapeutic massage techniques from acupressure or myofascial release therapy, among others, depending on the therapist’s background.

Trigger Point Massage involves a more targeted approach focused directly on releasing painful trigger points, so the sessions are meant to be more therapeutic and results-oriented than luxurious or relaxing.

Myofascial/Neuromuscular Release

  • Myofascial work releases restrictions in the fascia, or sheets of connective tissue, which hold the muscles in place. Its long, slow strokes and restoring stretches are not painful, feel very good, and leave you feeling more loose, open, expanded, and able to move and breathe better. Neuromuscular Therapy is a form of advanced deep tissue work, which releases holding patterns that keep us in discomfort within muscles, fascia, and connective tissue. It increases range of motion, and restores the body to its loose and natural state. Neuromuscular Therapy involves long, myofascial strokes and techniques like trigger point release.

Pregnancy - Prenatal Massage

  • Research shows prenatal massage therapy can help reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health. Prenatal massage therapy addresses different needs through varying techniques, one of which is called Swedish Massage.

Swedish Massage aims to relax muscle tension and improve lymphatic and blood circulation through mild pressure applied to the muscle groups of the body. Swedish Massage is the recommended massage method during pregnancy because it addresses many common discomforts associated with the skeletal and circulatory changes brought on by hormone shifts.

Channeled Massage

  • This treatment is for those who seek a comprehensive mind-body-spirit synthesis. A Channeled Massage creates a soul-to-body reunion that blends profound energy work with adept bodywork. Experience your own limitlessness, the truth of your multidimensional self, and allow for divine communication to be in complete flow. The channel opens between the receiver and their Higher Self so that new, expanded guidance may be received. Once the energy channels have opened, higher vibrations pulse through the body, releasing chronic pain, disease, and stressful emotions. Recipients feel more vibrant, joyful, clearer, and lighter upon the completion of the session.

Shamanic Reiki

  • Shamanic Reiki integrates shamanic practices with the potent healing energy of Reiki. Shamanic practices are ancient techniques used to align you with earth’s energy, your higher spirit, spirit guides and animal totems for transformative healing work. Shamanic reiki practitioners can see, feel or hear blocks or negative energy which may limit you from living a full healthy life. The practitioner then uses techniques that can drive out or gently remove these blocks. They may use drumming, crystals, their breath, or they may call on spirit guides to help them. The practitioner will then fill the empty space with healing energy, such as light, color or sound. Reiki is a practice of channeling energy, laying on hands or simply working in your aura or energy field to facilitate healing. When we put these two practices together we amplify the healing power of each, allowing deeper healing at all levels of mind, body and spirit.

Reiki Energy Healing

  • Reiki is one of the oldest forms of energetic healing. The meaning of the word is literally “Universal” (Rei) “Life Force” (Ki). As used in Reiki, it is more accurately interpreted as the Spiritual Consciousness called Rei, that guides the Life Energy called Ki, or Spiritually guided life energy. Reiki guides itself with its own wisdom rather than requiring the direction of the practitioner.

It’s a powerful method that can be used for developing harmony in body, mind, spirit, and emotions. Reiki can be applied to every living and non-living thing whether in front of you, at any distance, or even across time. Human beings, animals, plants and even objects can benefit from Reiki. Many ancient civilizations, who were more in tune with Nature and its amazing virtues, believed everything in the Universe possesses energy and an aura that can be felt, repaired, and maintained in health.

Cupping Massage

  • Cupping is a type of alternative therapy that originated in China. It involves placing cups on the skin to create suction. The suction may facilitate healing with blood flow.

Proponents also claim the suction helps facilitate the flow of “qi” in the body. Qi is a Chinese word meaning life force. A famous Taoist alchemist and herbalist, Ge Hong, reportedly first practiced cupping. He lived from A.D. 281 to 341.

Many Taoists believe that cupping helps balance yin and yang, or the negative and positive, within the body. Restoring the balance between these two extremes is thought to help with the body’s resistance to pathogens as well as its ability to increase blood flow and reduce pain.

Cupping increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed. This may relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. It may also help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue.

People use cupping to complement their care for a host of issues and conditions.
